Owen Wilson may be a Hollywood star, but his latest movie gave him a whole new kind of popularity at home. While promoting Owen Wilson’s Rolling Loud movie, the actor revealed that working with Travis Scott and Sexyy Red impressed his sons.
Wilson spoke about the experience at the Los Angeles premiere of Rolling Loud: The Movie on September 30. The comedy is set to hit theaters on October 2.
Owen Wilson Got “Street Cred” With His Kids
Wilson’s sons, Robert, 15, and Finn, 12, are big fans of Travis Scott and Sexyy Red. So, getting to work with the two artists gave their dad some serious bragging rights.
“They were such big fans,” Wilson said while discussing his sons’ reaction to meeting the musicians.
The actor also recalled having his boys with him in Miami when he joined Travis Scott onstage during the Rolling Loud festival.
For Wilson, it was more than just another moment from a movie shoot. His sons got to see their father share the stage with one of their favorite artists.
His Sons Have Their Eyes on Soccer
Despite growing up with a famous actor as their dad, Wilson’s sons do not appear to be rushing toward Hollywood.
The actor said both boys are passionate about soccer. Their ambitions currently involve becoming stars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Wilson has previously kept much of his family life away from the spotlight. He shares Robert with Jade Duell, Finn with Caroline Lindqvist, and his seven-year-old daughter Lyla with Varunie Vongsvirates.
For now, Wilson said it is simply too early to know whether his children will eventually follow him into show business.
What Is Rolling Loud: The Movie About?
The Owen Wilson Rolling Loud movie puts the actor in the role of a father caught in an overwhelming situation.
The story follows a dad who takes his son to the massive Rolling Loud music festival. When the father loses track of his son in the crowd, a fun day quickly turns into a frantic search.
The movie mixes family comedy with the chaotic atmosphere of a major hip-hop festival. It was filmed at the real Rolling Loud festival, adding an authentic setting to the story.
That real-world environment also allowed Wilson to interact with several major music artists during production.
Owen Wilson Found a Personal Connection to the Story
Although the movie takes its festival situation to an extreme level, Wilson could relate to its central parenting theme.
He explained that parents often have a plan for what happens if they become separated from their children in a crowded place.
Whether it is a theme park, fair, or another busy location, parents commonly choose a meeting point in case someone gets lost.
Rolling Loud: The Movie takes that familiar parenting concern and places it inside one of the world’s biggest hip-hop festival environments.
Travis Scott Is Among the Music Stars Featured
Travis Scott plays an important part in the movie’s connection to the real Rolling Loud experience.
Sexyy Red is also featured, along with other music artists including Ty Dolla $ign and Ski Mask the Slump God.
The cast combines established actors with performers from the music world. Owen Wilson leads the comedy alongside Matt Rife, Christine Ko, and Henry Winkler.
That combination gives the movie a different feel from a traditional family comedy.
Owen Wilson Is Returning to the Fockers Franchise
Wilson also has another major comedy project arriving later this year.
The actor will return as Kevin Rawley in Focker-in-Law, the fourth installment of the Meet the Parents and Fockers franchise.
The movie reunites Wilson with Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro. Ariana Grande is also part of the cast.
For Wilson, returning to the franchise means working again with actors he has known for years. He has expressed his excitement about reuniting with Stiller and De Niro and revisiting a series audiences have embraced for decades.
When Does Rolling Loud: The Movie Come Out?
Rolling Loud: The Movie is scheduled to arrive in theaters on October 2, 2026.
The film is directed by Jeremy Garelick and stars Owen Wilson and Matt Rife, with Travis Scott, Sexyy Red, and other music artists appearing in the movie.
For Wilson, the project has already delivered an unusual career moment: not only did he get to make a comedy at a real music festival, but he also gained some serious points with his soccer-loving sons.
