Spoiler warning: This article contains major spoilers for the Ted Lasso Season 4 finale.
The Ted Lasso Season 4 finale has arrived, but fans still do not have a clear answer about whether the Apple TV comedy will return for another season.
The season ended on October 7 with “Being Alive,” the 10th episode of Season 4. Apple TV lists the 55-minute episode as the season finale.
While the finale gives several AFC Richmond characters new directions, Brendan Hunt says there is still no official confirmation of a fifth season. The actor, writer, and executive producer also explained that Jason Sudeikis has kept his plans close to the chest.
Is Ted Lasso Season 5 happening?
For now, Ted Lasso Season 5 has not been officially confirmed.
Hunt addressed the renewal speculation in an interview following the Season 4 finale. When asked about reports that a renewal could be close, he said the news was new to him and that he remained hopeful and optimistic.
Hunt also indicated that a Season 5 writers’ room has not started. According to his comments, neither a new season nor a writers’ room had received an official green light at the time of the interview.
That means fans have reason to hope, but there is still no official renewal announcement to point to.
Brendan Hunt says Jason Sudeikis is keeping his plans private.
The future of Ted Lasso is closely connected to Jason Sudeikis, who stars as Ted Lasso and serves as an executive producer.
Hunt said Sudeikis “plays the cards close to his chest” when discussing the possibility of returning. He added that he is not aware of what discussions may be taking place between Sudeikis and the people involved in the show’s future.
Hunt also made it clear that the creative team has generally been open to continuing the story. At the same time, he acknowledged that Season 4 works as an ending if another season does not happen.
What happened in the Ted Lasso Season 4 finale?
Season 4 changed the structure of AFC Richmond in several major ways.
Ted ultimately stepped away from the head coaching position of Richmond’s women’s team. He recommended Alice Chilton, played by Tanya Reynolds, for the manager’s job.
Ted then moved into an assistant role alongside Coach Beard. The change gives Alice a chance to lead the team while allowing Ted to take a different position within Richmond.
The finale also changed Roy Kent’s future.
Roy, played by Brett Goldstein, accepted a head coaching position at Chelsea. At the same time, his relationship with Keeley Jones took another major step forward as they prepared to become parents.
Rebecca Welton also received an important personal development. She proposed to Matthijs, while Mae Green’s storyline continued to affect the future of AFC Richmond following her death.
Ted’s relationship with his son remains important.
The finale also focused on Ted’s relationship with his son, Henry.
Ted opened up about his father’s suicide and recognized how much his own experiences had shaped him. The moment adds another layer to his decision to change his role at Richmond and spend more time with Henry.
Rather than ending with one huge twist, the finale uses these personal and professional changes to move the characters into new stages of their lives.
Could these storylines lead to Ted Lasso Season 5?
There are certainly enough storylines for another season.
Hunt pointed to several unresolved possibilities, including Ted and Beard working as peers, Roy and Keeley becoming parents, Rebecca’s future, the people running the pub, and Alice adjusting to her new leadership role.
However, Hunt stressed that these are better described as open questions than traditional cliffhangers. He also said there is currently no indication that the show will definitely return to answer them.
That distinction matters.
The Season 4 finale leaves room for more Ted Lasso, but it does not guarantee that more episodes are coming.
Season 4 gives Ted Lasso a natural ending.
One reason the Season 5 question remains complicated is that the fourth season does not end with a major unresolved crisis.
Instead, the finale gives several characters new responsibilities and relationships.
Ted is no longer the central manager. Alice is ready to lead the women’s team. Roy begins a new chapter at Chelsea. Rebecca moves forward with Matthijs. Meanwhile, Roy and Keeley’s future as parents creates another possible storyline.
Apple TV describes “Being Alive” simply as the Season 4 finale, with “big changes in bunches.”
Those changes could support another season, but they also allow the series to end without requiring one.
What Brendan Hunt’s comments mean for Season 5
The clearest takeaway is simple: Ted Lasso Season 5 remains uncertain.
Hunt is hopeful about returning, but he has not confirmed a renewal. He also does not know what Jason Sudeikis ultimately wants to do.
For now, fans are left with a finale that closes several chapters while leaving enough possibilities for another story.
And that may be the most Ted Lasso way to end things: not with a definitive goodbye, but with a little room to believe that the story could continue.
