TLC singer T-Boz was hospitalised after experiencing a sickle cell crisis, forcing her to miss several recent dates on the group’s It’s Iconic Tour. Her representative says the singer is now recovering and working to regain her strength.
The health update was confirmed on September 2, 2026, after fans noticed that T-Boz was absent from recent performances alongside TLC bandmate Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue.
T-Boz Is Recovering After Hospitalisation
T-Boz, whose real name is Tionne Watkins, has lived with sickle cell disease since childhood.
Her representative, Christal Jordan, confirmed that the singer recently experienced a sickle cell crisis that required hospital treatment. The statement said Watkins is currently recovering and regaining her strength.
The update came after several recent tour appearances went ahead without T-Boz.
At this stage, there has been no announced timetable for her return to the stage. Reports indicate that the tour is continuing while she focuses on her recovery.
Chilli Performs Without T-Boz on Tour
With T-Boz temporarily sidelined, Chilli has continued performing TLC’s material during the It’s Iconic Tour.
During a recent Connecticut performance, Chilli addressed T-Boz’s absence and explained that her long-time bandmate was dealing with a sickle cell episode. She also asked the audience to show their support for T-Boz.
The response from fans has been especially meaningful for the group.
TLC’s representative said audiences have been singing T-Boz’s parts and showing their support while she recovers. The team also thanked fans for continuing to send prayers and well-wishes.
The tour features TLC alongside fellow veteran groups Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue.
T-Boz Has Lived With Sickle Cell Disease Since Childhood
T-Boz’s battle with sickle cell disease is not new.
She was diagnosed at the age of 7 and has spoken publicly over the years about the impact the condition has had on her life and career.
In her 2017 memoir, A Sick Life: TLC ‘n Me: Stories from On and Off the Stage, Watkins discussed living with the condition and the challenges that came with sickle cell crises.
She has also previously explained that doctors once gave her a grim outlook as a child. Despite those early predictions, she went on to build a successful career with TLC, travel internationally and become a mother.
What Is a Sickle Cell Crisis?
A sickle cell crisis can occur in people with sickle cell disease when abnormal red blood cells contribute to blocked blood flow.
These episodes can cause severe pain and may require medical treatment. The condition can also lead to complications affecting different parts of the body.
For someone living with sickle cell disease, a crisis can be serious enough to require hospitalisation. That context helps explain why T-Boz’s recent health episode required her to step away from touring while she recovers.
T-Boz Has Faced Health Challenges Before
The latest hospitalisation is not the first time T-Boz’s health has affected TLC’s performances.
In August 2024, TLC cancelled a scheduled performance in Syracuse, New York, after Watkins experienced sudden nausea, vomiting and severe abdominal cramps. She was taken to a hospital and later said doctors diagnosed her with a severe abdominal blockage.
That incident was separate from her current sickle cell crisis.
The singer has nevertheless continued performing and working throughout her long career, despite living with a chronic illness.
TLC Continues the 2026 Tour
For now, Chilli is carrying on with TLC’s performances while T-Boz concentrates on getting better.
The It’s Iconic Tour is a major reunion of influential groups from the 1990s and features TLC, Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue. Current tour information indicates that the run is scheduled to continue into October.
T-Boz’s representatives have not announced when she will return to the tour.
For fans, the immediate priority is her recovery. Her team has thanked audiences for their support and asked them to continue sending positive thoughts and prayers as she regains her strength.
Fans Rally Behind T-Boz
News of T-Boz’s hospitalisation quickly prompted an outpouring of support from fans.
Her absence has been noticeable because TLC’s performances are built around the chemistry between T-Boz and Chilli. Still, Chilli has continued to represent the group onstage while making it clear that her bandmate remains part of the show’s heart.
For now, T-Boz is taking time away from the spotlight to recover from the sickle cell crisis.
Her team says she is recovering, and fans are continuing to hope for her return when she is healthy enough to perform again.
