Kim Kardashian has received €1 in symbolic damages following the civil case linked to the 2016 Paris robbery that left her traumatised. The amount was the sum Kardashian had requested, making the decision more about recognition and accountability than financial compensation.
A Paris court issued the decision on September 15, 2026. Kardashian’s long-time friend and stylist Simone Harouche, who was also present during the incident, received the same symbolic amount.
The ruling comes after years of legal proceedings surrounding the high-profile Kim Kardashian Paris robbery.
What happened in Kim Kardashian’s 2016 Paris robbery?
The robbery took place during Paris Fashion Week in October 2016 at the Hôtel de Pourtalès.
Men disguised as police officers entered Kardashian’s accommodation and held her at gunpoint. They restrained her before taking jewellery worth more than $6 million, according to reports from the Associated Press and Reuters. Among the stolen items was a diamond engagement ring valued at about $4 million.
Kardashian later described the incident as one of the most frightening experiences of her life. Her testimony also became an important part of the criminal proceedings that followed.
Simone Harouche also received €1.
Harouche was staying at the same hotel during the robbery. She later testified about hearing Kardashian pleading for help during the incident.
Like Kardashian, Harouche sought only a symbolic amount in damages. The court awarded her €1 as well.
Why did Kardashian ask for only €1?
The symbolic payment was not intended to represent the financial value of the jewellery that was stolen.
Instead, Kardashian sought the minimal amount as recognition of what happened to her. In a statement reported by AP, Kardashian and Harouche said the ruling was about accountability and recognition, rather than compensation.
That distinction is important because the civil case involved several victims and different claims for damages.
Other victims received larger damages.
The Paris court also awarded damages to other parties connected to the robbery.
A former hotel receptionist received €109,516 after seeking substantially more. The hotel itself was awarded €50,000.
The receptionist had described lasting trauma connected to the incident. His lawyer told AP that the decision was a significant result for his client.
What happened in the criminal case?
The civil ruling follows the criminal proceedings connected to the Paris jewellery heist.
Eight people were convicted over their involvement in the robbery. Several of the defendants were older men, leading French media to refer to the group as the “grandpa robbers”.
The criminal trial took place in 2025. Aomar Ait Khedache, identified by Reuters as the mastermind of the robbery, received a three-year prison sentence. Seven other people were also convicted.
Because of time already spent in pretrial detention, those convicted did not return to prison after the verdict, according to AP. None of the convicted defendants appealed.
Kardashian has spoken openly about the robbery.
The Kim Kardashian Paris robbery continued to affect her long after the crime.
She eventually discussed the incident publicly, including details about the fear she experienced while the robbers were inside her room. Over the years, she has also spoken about how the experience changed her attitude toward security, jewellery and material possessions.
Kardashian returned to Paris in 2018, marking an important personal step after avoiding the city following the robbery. She later continued discussing the experience in television appearances and interviews.
In 2025, she also addressed Ait Khedache during the criminal proceedings and said she forgave him, while making clear that forgiveness did not erase the trauma caused by the robbery.
What the €1 ruling means for Kardashian
The latest decision closes another legal chapter in a case that has remained closely connected to Kardashian’s public life for nearly a decade.
The symbolic award does not replace the value of the jewellery that was stolen. Instead, it formally recognises Kardashian and Harouche as victims in the civil proceedings.
Their statement following the decision indicated that they now want to move forward from the experience and continue healing.
For Kardashian, the September 2026 ruling therefore represents another significant development in the long-running aftermath of the 2016 Paris hotel robbery.
