Martine Singer has spoken publicly about the lasting impact of Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner’s deaths, nine months after the couple were killed at their Los Angeles home.
In a September 28 interview with Extra, Singer discussed her grief, her relationship with her late sister Michele, and how she has remained close to Michele and Rob’s children, Jake Reiner and Romy Reiner.
Singer said every member of the family has been dealing with the loss differently. She also described the tragedy as something that has permanently changed their lives.
Martine Singer Says the Family Is Still Healing
Singer explained that grief has affected each family member in a different way.
She said she considers Jake and Romy like her own children and wants to remain a source of support for them following the deaths of their parents.
The comments offer a rare public glimpse into how the Reiner family has been coping since December 2025.
Singer also acknowledged that, while people can gradually heal from a devastating loss, the emotional impact can remain.
Her remarks came nine months after Rob and Michele were found dead at their Brentwood home on December 14, 2025.
Rob and Michele Reiner’s Marriage Remains Part of the Family’s Memories
During the interview, Martine Singer also reflected on her sister Michele’s relationship with Rob Reiner.
The couple married in 1989 and remained together for 36 years. Singer described their relationship as exceptionally close and said they quickly became a lasting couple.
Beyond their marriage, Singer remembered Rob and Michele for their generosity and commitment to helping others.
She specifically discussed their support for her work at the Children’s Institute, a Los Angeles organization focused on children, families and communities. Singer serves as the organization’s president and CEO.
Jake and Romy Reiner Are Coping With the Loss of Their Parents
Rob and Michele Reiner’s deaths left behind their children Jake and Romy, as well as Nick Reiner. Rob also had daughter Tracy Reiner, whom he adopted during his marriage to Penny Marshall.
Martine said Jake and Romy are processing the loss in their own ways.
Her comments did not suggest that there is one shared path through grief. Instead, she emphasized the importance of staying connected as the family continues to deal with the aftermath.
That family support has become an important part of Singer’s relationship with Jake and Romy.
What Happened to Rob and Michele Reiner?
Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner were found dead at their Brentwood residence in Los Angeles on December 14, 2025.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office later charged their son Nick Reiner in connection with the deaths. Prosecutors allege that he killed both of his parents with a knife.
Nick Reiner has pleaded not guilty. The charges remain allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
In August 2026, a grand jury indictment was unsealed. It charged Reiner with two counts of murder and included special-circumstance allegations involving multiple murders and alleged lying in wait. The indictment also included an allegation that he personally used a knife.
Prosecutors Will Not Seek the Death Penalty
There has also been a significant development in the case this month.
On September 15, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced that prosecutors would not seek the death penalty against Nick Reiner.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, Reiner faces life in state prison without the possibility of parole if convicted as charged. He remains in custody without bail.
The decision came after prosecutors reviewed aggravating and mitigating factors and spoke with members of the Reiner family.
Reiner’s next court date is scheduled for October 7, 2026, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Martine Singer Continues to Honor Michele and Rob’s Legacy
While the legal case moves forward, Singer is also remembering Rob and Michele for the work they did during their lives.
She said the couple supported her efforts at the Children’s Institute and viewed helping others as an important responsibility.
The organization is also set to honor Jamie Lee Curtis with its inaugural Michele and Rob Reiner Champion for Change Award. Singer said Curtis represents the generosity and spirit she associates with the late couple.
For Singer, however, remembering Rob and Michele is closely connected to supporting the family they left behind.
Nine months after their deaths, her message remains centered on family, grief and continuing to move forward while carrying the memory of those who were lost.
The Reiner Family’s Story Continues
Martine Singer’s first public comments since the deaths provide a more personal look at the family’s life away from the courtroom.
Her remarks also come as the legal case against Nick Reiner continues. While the criminal proceedings will determine the allegations against him, Singer’s focus remains on her family and the lasting loss of her sister and brother-in-law.
For Jake and Romy, and for the wider Reiner family, the process of coping continues in deeply personal ways.
As Singer indicated, moving forward does not necessarily mean leaving the loss behind.
