Lisa Mutalu Dies at 25 in Lusaka
Zambian model and social media personality Lisa Mutalu has died at the age of 25, prompting an investigation by police into the circumstances surrounding her sudden passing.
Mutalu, who was also known by her legal name Lisa Mutambo, died in the early hours of August 20 in Lusaka, Zambia.
According to a preliminary account from the Zambia Police Service, Mutalu became unwell after spending the evening socialising with two friends. She later began vomiting at her residence and became unconscious.
She was taken to Victoria Hospital in Lusaka, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Police have opened an inquiry and are awaiting further findings from a postmortem examination.
What Happened Before Lisa Mutalu Died?
Police said Mutalu had been with two female friends at a hotel in Lusaka on the evening of August 19.
The group reportedly stayed there for several hours before moving to another drinking establishment at around 10:30 p.m.
They continued socialising into the early hours of August 20.
Between approximately 2:30 and 3 a.m., Mutalu’s boyfriend, identified by police as Caleb Lisa, also known as Andrea, reportedly arrived to pick up the three women.
He dropped Mutalu’s friends off before continuing with her to their residence in the Kalundu area.
Police said Mutalu became sick after they arrived.
She reportedly started vomiting and then lost consciousness. Her boyfriend contacted a friend for assistance, and the two took her to Victoria Hospital.
Doctors later pronounced her dead.
Police Say No Physical Injuries Were Observed
The circumstances of the Lisa Mutalu death have generated considerable discussion online, including unverified claims about possible foul play.
However, police have not confirmed those allegations.
According to the preliminary police report, officers who examined the case did not observe physical injuries on Mutalu’s body. Authorities have nevertheless continued investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.
Her body was initially taken to FSG Mortuary before being transferred to the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
